Gaslight Services

Gaslight Services We Offer

We offer different service options for gaslights. From basic maintenance to complete reconditioning, we can do it all. What service is right for you?

Our Basic Service is ideal for the budget minded home owner. Not as extensive as a Gaslight Recondition, the essential elements which affect illumination are covered. While we strongly recommend a complete Recondition for best results, our Basic Service is thorough. Please Note: The Basic Gaslight Service is only available for gaslights currently burning!

The Gaslight Recondition is the cornerstone of our service. Since 1992, we have restored thousands of Houston gaslights to an almost new state! In fact, we have had several home owners who originally contacted us to replace a gaslight entirely – which we can also do. However, once they saw what a Recondition did, were completely satisfied and saved money in the process. Totally refurbishing a gaslight is an art form, which we have perfected over the decades.

Why Is a Gaslight Recondition Preferred Over the Basic Service?

Gaslights obviously run on Natural Gas and contain copper tubing in at least two different locations. First at the source, which can be from the gas meter or a stub out coming from the house. This piece is known as the “copper drop”. This is typically made of 3/8″ O.D. copper. The second place is inside the gaslight post itself and is known as the “long internal”. The long internal is made from 1/4″ O.D. copper. Spanning the distance between these two points, gas lines are most often made of high grade industrial strength vinyl tubing. In older installations, the entire gas line may be made entirely of copper tubing. Why is this important to know?

Copper has a reaction to Natural Gas. The result is that a grey residue builds up on the walls of the copper tubing. Over time, the gas line becomes clogged and ceases to deliver gas to where it’s needed. If your gaslight won’t light, there’s a good chance that the line is stopped up with residue. Even if the gas line is not entirely blocked, there may still be problems with residue buildup. The grey residue will flake and travel upstream to the gaslight valve and plug the tiny pin hole sized orifice where the natural gas mixes with oxygen. Symptoms that this may be occurring include difficulty lighting, the light not staying lit or blowing out, or even becoming impossible to light. Our Gaslight Recondition addresses all of these possibilities and more.

Another issue which is addressed is possible gas line leaks. In addition to blowing out the gas line, we perform a Pressure Test to determine if there is a leak. Home owners overwhelmingly like knowing that their gas line is safe and secure. Is your gaslight’s gas line free of leaks?
